A popular question of the GLBT traveler is …” When is the best time to visit Costa Rica? ”.

This is difficult to answer since Costa Rica has just two very distinct seasons with fans and supporters to both. Our high or dry season begins during latter November and continues into May. This period is often frequented by northern snowbird travelers that seek sun and beach destinations during their winters at home. Most of the country receives absolutely no rain and landscapes dry out, begin to look parched then end with brown and dusty conditions.

The exact dates of dry season regarding room rates vary from property to property so be sure to check before finalizing your plans. Moving your dates slightly might place you into “Green Season” which spans from mid May to mid November and “save you green $$$” with normally lower rates. James of Colours Destinations began calling this period “green” in his marketing efforts more than 21 years ago instead of using the negative terms such as low, off or rainy season… and now, “Green Season” is used by the entire tourism industry and government tourism board ICT in promoting this “other season”… when the country is lush tropical and alive from the benefit and effect of typical afternoon showers. These showers are not oppressive and on the contrary give its destinations vitality and the feeling of wellness from the oxygenation and enrichment caused by the shear “green-ness” and abounding vegetation. Green Season weather is usually bright sunny morning followed by incoming clouds and then a tropical shower lasting only hours before clearing to another star studded night. Normally only the two months of September and October may have full days of overcast or rainy conditions except in the Atlantic Zone where dry season normally starts earlier with sunny conditions sooner.

Enjoying the thrill of zipline canopy

Costa Rica is due to explode “year round” as more visitors discover the benefits in both our seasonal periods. At Colours Oasis Resort – a gay hotel in San Jose, more guests stay extended time during Green Season to take advantage of day tripping tours departing from their front door (volcanoes, waterfalls, canopy ziplines, hiking, birding, horseback, rafting, boating, etc.) to return to the varied dining and gay nightlife options that abound in the capital city and its surrounds. Shorter stays at the outlying destinations and beaches seem typical since so much more is offered during this time period in the urban metro area. As an added bonus currently most properties offer discounted room rates to attract international guests to experience the “other season”.

Therefore to answer the question … “When considering your next travel plans, put Gay Costa Rica on a year round timetable; however, remember to GO GREEN, STAY and SAVE GREEN $$$ in GAY COSTA RICA !

Discover Costa Rica by contacting Colours Destinations (CDI) (featuring tours & travel packages) and /or Colours Oasis Resort (the officical hotel site – your homebase to adventure) to plan your upcoming personal holiday. Both offer free assistance in arranging your entire visit for throughout the country with their network of gay and friendly venues of Gay Travel Costa Rica.

Enjoy “Pura Vida !” … which translates to “pure life” or really … “Just Live!”
